With us it’s possible to join a championship from the comfort of your home, giving you the chance to race against similarly skilled drivers on an international scale. Lots of hard work has gone into building the platform we have today so without further ado, welcome, and let’s begin to break down the features on our website for you to better understand them.
Finding the events right for you
Do you want the full championship experience with all the excitement and adrenaline that comes with it? Then look no further. The SimGrid offers you the opportunity to join leagues across different platforms as well as across different sim titles such as Assetto Corsa Competizione, F1 2021 and RFactor 2.
Our Calendar
Our championship page can be daunting as there are so many different leagues and communities running. To simplify this, we’ve got our very own calendar. The calendar is your best friend for event planning as it contains all upcoming events and has all the dates you need to know about. It breaks down the schedule for the upcoming months allowing you to pick and choose your events with ease.
Visiting our Hosts
Hosts is another feature that is a must use. It is essentially an A to Z list of all the fantastic communities that host events on the SimGrid. Just like the first feature, it’s another tool that helps make your life easier when trying to find an event or league for yourself.
At SimGrid we truly appreciate all our hosting communities as they all allow our drivers to have such a variable experience online. They cover different platforms, games as well as different types of racing such as sprint and endurance racing including multi-class events. On top of this, some hosts offer special prizes such as sim gear or prize money. All you have to do is some digging on our website and use our appropriate search filters to find a host just for you.
Some of the communities have “follower only” events, so you have to be following them on the website for you to compete in their races. There are also hosts with official partners and sponsors who have broadcasts for their events. There is a community for all needs and wants, seek and you shall find!
Different types of Championships on offer
We briefly touched on the different types of racing on offer but let’s take a closer look at the type of championships and events you can get involved in through our website.
One off/Special events
As the title so eloquently puts it, these events are single race events. They can be fun or highly competitive, but the beauty of these events is they allow you to visit some of your favourite tracks at a competitive level without the commitment of a full championship. For example, we hosted the Rain Meister event back in December which was all about the challenge of driving on a flooded track, or the Black Friday event in November that saw us head to a dark Bathurst for an hour of carnage on the mountain.
Endurance Championship
A fan favourite especially in the GT world of racing, endurance racing could be the category for you. It doesn’t get any better than a fully customisable season with varying lengths of races spread over as many rounds as you’d like on some of the most iconic tracks in the world. With driver swaps possible in-game and immersion that makes it feel just like the real thing, it’s no wonder it’s such a popular format.
Sprint Championship
If you are a driver who doesn’t like to hand over the steering wheel then this is your safe haven. Sprint races are all about you and your car, racing against your competitors at full pelt. Also known as full send racing, this format is action-packed. With less time available in the race, qualifying and race starts can make a big difference as overtaking isn’t always the easiest.
Signing up and creating a team
One of the first things you’ll look to do at SimGrid is either Join or Create a team. Signing up to a team event isn’t overly complex, and so below you can see our guide on how to get registered.
Signing up and joining Discord
The easiest way to sign up on our website is to go over to our Discord server and join that first. Our website authenticates all user accounts through Discord, and so once you’ve joined our Discord you can then head over to our website, where you can now click on the top right of the home screen and login through Discord. Once you authorize access with Discord it will link your account and set up a SimGrid profile for you.
If you want to know more about setting yourself up at SimGrid as a new member, you can read a separate article on that, here.
Creating a team
Once you have a profile set up and you are signed in you will be able to create a team. Click on the profile drop-down arrow on the top right of the screen. Once you have opened the drop-down menu you will see an option that says “create a team”.
Here you can create a team with your team name and you can also add drivers to create the team profile page. At least one driver in the team has to be the team manager, so it’s completely up to you who becomes the next Toto Wolff.
From there, you can enter your team into events by simply signing them up. Be it an endurance event or a sprint event it’s all up to you as the team manager and your drivers. During the signup process, you can also select which drivers you want to participate in.
A really useful feature for the bigger teams out there is that you can also have more than one car per event. So say you want 2 cars on the grid, you can enter 2 of your drivers to represent the team. Once your team has taken part in an event, your team profile page will be updated with your results from that event. It’s really easy to do, and we often have teams entering many squads into each championship!
It’s all in your control, I do have to warn you though, unfortunately, we are not liable for any damage to headsets that might be thrown if you are actually Toto Wolff.
That’s a wrap
The website really is that easy to navigate and if you ever get stuck feel free to ask in our Discord server and help will surely find you. Thanks for taking the time to read this short tutorial and we hope it helps you. Until then, happy racing and have fun out on track!
