This Month at SimGrid – October 2022

The month of October started with one of the most famous endurance races in the motorsport world, the ‘Petit Le Mans’. The iconic 10 hours of Road Atlanta may inspire many racers to take part in some endurance events, therefore we decided to pick some of the scheduled events at The SimGrid to keep you busy in the upcoming month.

Coach Dave 6H of Road Atlanta

Since Petit Le Mans is what is motivating us to promote more endurance events, it was impossible not to have our own version of the race. Around ten hours after the chequered flag of the real counterpart, Coach Dave Academy switched the lights back on the American track for the 6 Hours of Road Atlanta.

LMP2s and GTEs went at it on Sunday the 2nd of October and you can rewatch all the action on The SimGrid YouTube channel. The race was held on iRacing. While the focus of our community has always been on Assetto Corsa Competizione, iRacing is slowly getting more and more popular and there are a lot of communities hosting events on the platform.

In the past few months, there have been a lot of endurance races on iRacing. Coach Dave Academy visited Le Mans, Fuji, Spa-Francorchamps and Hockenheim, and considering the success of these events there will be more soon!

Petrol Aficionados 4 Hours of Suzuka

Going back to Assetto Corsa Competizione, let’s take a look at some of the most interesting events organised by our hosts. We begin with the 4 Hours of Suzuka by Petrol Aficionados. This GT3-only race will be held on Saturday, 15th of October.

No big rules for this one: a 65 minutes stint time limiter, 50 tyre sets and no manual BoP. This will be a team event, so bring a friend (or two) and join the race! You can also send your personalised livery that will be showcased in the live broadcasting on Twitch.

PAN-AM Racing 3 Hours of Zandvoort

On the same weekend, PAN-AM Racing is hosting a 3 Hours of Zandvoort with a more friendly schedule for racers living in America. This event will feature GT3 only. Both solo drivers and teams are welcome, but there will be only 35 spots available, so make sure to pick yours quickly!

Taking a look at the rules, there is one that stands out. Max driver stint time will be set to 48 minutes. While this limit is often used in events to balance the different cars, having it set so low should spice the race up strategy-wise.

FRL 4 Hours of Watkins Glen

Rounding up the series of endurance events is the 4 Hours of Watkins Glen by Formula Racing League. On Saturday 22nd October 50 GT3 cars are going to hit the American track. This race is part of the FRL Endurance GT3 Championship 2022 but will be held as a one-off event.

Teams can be formed by up to 4 drivers. There will be absolute freedom of strategy apart from the traditional 65 minutes driver stint limit. No entry fee, but only the requirement of the 3 track medals and a Safety Rating of 75.

LSR Versus Thursdays GT4 and GT3

If you are not a fan of endurance events, don’t worry, we got you covered! On Thursday the 20th of October Light Speed Racing will host the inaugural round of a new multiclass championship, Versus Thursday GT4 and GT3.

Six rounds, 60 minutes races and specific strategic rules. Drivers from both classes will have to perform a mandatory pit stop, changing tires and refuelling their cars in the 45 minutes pit window.

The championship will be held on European tracks on Thursdays. The first two rounds in October will be at Hungaroring and Monza. In November teams and drivers will visit Paul Ricard, Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps and Imola.
