Over at The Sim Grid, we’ve recently launched Season 2 of the “More Female Racers Series by Thrustmaster”. With an emphasis on providing women the opportunity to not only drive but be involved in all elements of Sim Racing in order to help break down the stereotypical and societal barriers that often prevent women from being involved in Motorsport. As we enter season 2, it’s time to give you the lowdown on the; who’s who, what’s what, and all the gossip from inside the virtual paddock!
The Format
In season 1 of MFR, the concept was that each team would be made up of at least 1 female, with a co-driver (of any gender) to form a 2 person team. We’re pleased to confirm that for season 2 this has stayed, with the only real difference being that the teams can come pre-defined, rather than awaiting our allocation.
The Championship itself is split into 2 classes; GT3 Pro and GT3 Pro-AM. The Pro class lends itself to the more experienced sim racer (whether that be in ACC generally, or here at The Sim Grid) whilst the Pro-AM category is catered more towards new entrants in the series. In any case, the racing will be balanced correctly, ensuring that we see plenty of action throughout the field and watch the championship go down to the wire.
Each race will be 60 minutes, with a fixed pit window for driver swaps around the 30-minute mark. Not only does this balance the field by ensuring nobody can run away on sheer pace, but it also means the teams need to work together to perfect their driver swaps as well as car setups. Anyone who has watched motorsport of any kind knows how decisive a pit-stop can be, so be sure to tune in to the series and see how the teams handle the pressure!
The Prizes
Season 1 again saw a great influx of prizes into the series, offering not only participants the opportunity to win hardware, but also you the viewers. As we move into season 2, we’ve turned up the prize dial to 11 and are delighted to announce a plethora of prizes – many coming as a courtesy of series title partner, Thrustmaster.
For the Viewers;
Kicking things off, we’re delighted to announce that 1 lucky winner from this series will be rewarded with a brand new Thrustmaster TS-XW Servo Base. Bringing together Thrustmasters’ most advanced technologies, this highly popular wheelbase has now been launched as an independent product, and we’ll be giving one away to one lucky viewer of the series. How to Win? Make sure you’re following The Sim Grid official social media channels and be sure to vote in our “Overtake of the Week Segments”. A winner will be drawn at random at the end of the series, so make sure you’re in it to win it!
For the Participants;
The prizes haven’t only ramped up for the viewers, but will also be increased for the participants. We’re pleased to announce that the winning team of the overall series will be rewarded with a brand new Thrustmaster TS-XW Servo Base each. Again, this brand new wheelbase will be a great addition to any setup, giving enhanced force feedback and fidelity to the user.
But the prizes don’t stop there. We’re pleased to announce that in collaboration with Thrustmaster’s brand new “Rockets” initiative (an all-female Esports team) that the 3 female Drivers who achieve the highest points score in the championship will participate in a private final selection with Thrustmaster to potentially enter the Thrustmaster Rockets Program. This test shall acknowledge their personal merits and skills across a variety of disciplines, such as; Driving, Social Media Skills and other elements to potentially become a member of the team. As we mentioned at the beginning of this article, the More Female Racers series is all about the empowerment of women and helping them get into Motorsport through The Sim Grid, to which this prize is a great example of such. We’re extremely excited to see this prize come to fruition, and can’t wait to see which 3 females grab the top spots.
