Today’s Community Spotlight is on CRF Motorsport, a group that has quickly become a reference point for many Assetto Corsa Competizione racers since its founding in 2020. The community is mainly focused on endurance events but offers a fun mix of various racing formats. We spoke with one of the founders, Ryan Quinn, to learn more about CRF and its future plans.
Behind The Scenes of CRF
CRF was established in 2020 with a dual focus on ACC and F1. However, the community did not start from scratch; it evolved from the formerly known Kenco Motorsports. Ryan restructured the brand with the help of Ethan Davies, marking the beginning of a new chapter.
“We decided to host a 9 Hours of Kyalami as our first event, quickly followed by a 24 Hours of Spa, which was a great success”, Ryan told us. “Since then, we have gained nearly a thousand new Discord members as well as over a thousand new SimGrid followers”. The road to success has been long, and the journey is far from over.
Nowadays, CRF offers a great variety of championships and events, both paid and free, guaranteeing an interesting prize pool for participants. To make this possible, the admin team has grown over time, expanding to over 15 members working behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly.
A Focus On Endurance Racing
One of the community’s most popular formats is endurance racing, which requires a large and well-prepared staff to handle the challenges of events lasting 12-24 hours. However, CRF is not solely focused on endurance racing.
“We have recently committed to hosting two events per month minimum”, Ryan explained. “These will be a combination of One-Off Events, Sprint Championships and our new 2024/2025 Endurance Championship which is due to be announced shortly”. The main championship will be previewed by a 24 Hours of Spa, which is being held on the 31st of August. Another exciting event we hosted was the 4 Hours of Nords.
Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that CRF hosts an annual Charity Race to raise money for Dementia UK. It is heartwarming to see such initiatives gaining popularity in the sim racing communities, as we have witnessed in some of our recent articles. These events are concrete proof that we can make a difference in helping others by simply racing from our homes and doing what we love most.
Future Racing Plans
What does the imminent future hold for CRF? Certainly, plenty of endurance racing. The already mentioned 24 Hours of Spa has a full grid of 80, plus 22 reserve teams – awe-inspiring numbers! The 2024/2025 endurance championship will soon be announced, featuring a fun mix of tracks and race lengths and keeping CRF users busy until late spring 2025.
Looking ahead, CRF is also looking to further expand the racing offer. “We currently have an iRacing team led by our iRacing Director Ben Ford, however in the future, we will be planning to host races led by Ethan Davies and Ben, focusing on Endurance events similar to our ACC events”.
Towards the end of the year, the 2025 edition of the annual Charity Event will be announced. “Generally speaking, our future plan is to maintain a balance of paid and free events for the community. We are looking forward to a strong second half of 2024 as we explore new opportunities in 2025 and beyond”.
