New year, old habits. After the winter break, it is finally time to get back on track for some racing action. With More Female Racers Season 4 handing out its final verdicts in December, at The SimGrid the new year will start with the penultimate round of the Endurance Cup. On the 15th of January, 6 entertaining hours could potentially become decisive. With no other events scheduled at the moment, the racing calendar will be full thanks to the multiple communities hosted on our website, providing a great variety to choose from.
Kyalami set to host Endurance Cup penultimate round
As the Endurance Cup heads to South Africa, all eyes will be on R8G eSports. The #9 Audi, leading the championship since the start of the season, ended 2021 in style with a commanding win in the 6h of Paul Ricard, and will look to keep the streak alive in the new year. With a 46 points lead in the standings, Houben, Schoeniger and Sherratt know that the championship’s destiny is in their hands. By winning in Kyalami they could already secure the title.
Taking the flag in P1 once again would be a dream scenario for the R8G eSports trio, but competition will be fierce. The only title-contenders left, YAS HEAT #150, will be looking for redemption, after the tough day at the office they had in round 3. Their hypothetical first win of the season could spice up the title fight heading into the final race in Bathurst. YAS HEAT could also count on the help from #149. The two entries will try to forget Paul Ricard, where they collided, and start back from the outstanding 1-2 they got in Monza.
ERS World Endurance Series
With the World Cup coming to its natural end, another endurance championship will kick off this month, the ERS World Endurance Series by European Racing Series. Right now there are 29 cars signed up to the season fighting for a 200 $ prize pool dedicated to the top-3, but there is still room for more to join. Every team can have a lineup formed by 2-5 drivers.
Driver stint time and tyre sets limits will spice things up strategy-wise. Each crew will have 6 tyre sets available for 6h races, and 12 of them for 12h rounds. The first race is scheduled for the 22nd of January and will be 6 Hours in Imola. The championship will then continue with the 9h of Suzuka and the 12h of Spa in February, to then wrap things up in March with a 6h of Barcelona and a 12h of Nurburgring.
OTL GT3 Series S10
Not only endurance on the new year’s schedule. One of the most popular sprint championships you may find is the OTL GT3 Series hosted by On The Limit Community Racing. The success of this series, which has now come to its tenth edition, is determined by the high competitiveness and the categorization that provides close racing for everyone. Drivers will be divided into Pro and Am based on a hotstint qualification, which will then be reviewed after the two evaluation races in Misano and Nurburgring.
When this process will be over, 6 rounds of 75 minutes each will be held on Thursday nights. The first two races are scheduled on the 20th and the 27th of January, in Silverstone and Paul Ricard. The remainder of the season will be in February, when drivers will visit Bathurst, Oulton Park, Monza and finally Brands Hatch.
SOP PlayStation British GT Championship
SOP Motorsport is one of our hosts who offer console racing on our platform. They start the new year by hosting a full replica of the 2022 British GT championships that runs from January to April and finishes exactly one week before the real life counterpart starts. First round will be held on Sunday the 30th of January in Oulton Park.
They will be running the official calendar, even visiting Spa Francorchamps, whilst using the official liveries and manufacturers. They have two full grids for this multi-class championship featuring GT3 and GT4 and they can’t wait to see who will be the very first console champions on the new SimGrid console platform.
