In a landmark event for SimGrid, we are proud to announce our brand new Championship Series, The Kyalami Series! This new,  5-race championship will bring an exciting twist to the classic tournament fashion, with the venue staying the same while the vehicles change! Without further ado, it’s time to find out more about it!

Kyalami Series Format

The 5-race championship will see racers go wheel to wheel at the Kyalami International Circuit in different manufacturers, offering the perfect blend of experience with some unpredictability of the machinery.

The five races have been scheduled to take place over three days spread across three weeks. As for the race itself, the first four races will be on equal footing, with all cars dishing out the same performance, whereas the last race will involve performance-based BoP. The first four races are 30-minute sprint races with no pit stops, while the last race will be a 75-minute race!

Round 1 will consist of two races involving the fiery Lamborghinis and will take place on 3rd June 2021. Round 2 follows shortly after on 10th June 2021, with a further two races scheduled involving the Porsches this time.

Lastly, the 3rd Round will see the 75-minute race with a mandatory pitstop with refuelling required. This race (Race #5) will be held on 17th June 2021. This final event is an open grid event with the format open to all GT3 cars, and the race will use SimGrid’s custom BoP.

Championship Overview:

Race 1 – Lamborghini Super Trofeo (Round 1)

Race 2 – Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO (Round 1)

Race 3 – Porsche 991 II GT3 Cup (Round 2)

Race 4 – Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 (Round 2)

Race 5 – Open GT3 with Custom BoP (Round 3)

Kyalami Series Prize Pool

In a first for SimGrid, the Kyalami Series will be one of the first regular competitions at SimGrid to feature an entry fee. In this case, the entry fee will be 9 USD per driver for the entire championship. And since the series is made up of 5 races but for three rounds (3 separate days), the cost of entry works out to just 3 USD per round! But that’s not all…

In another first, the Kyalami Series will also debut with a prize pool! Each split will have a prize pool that consists of 30% of the split’s total entry fees. Every split in the Kyalami Series will involve a considerable amount of prizes for the best performers! Here is the breakdown of how the prize pool will be allocated:

Winner – 50% of the allocated share.

2nd Place – 30% of the allocated share.

3rd Place – 20% of the allocated share.

The registration for the Kyalami Series will be live from the 20th of May 2021 at 17:00 CEST and will continue right along with the qualifying phase.
